Faith First; Creed and
Prayer RCL
Resources for Christian Living.
Students continue their faith journey by understanding the
meaning of the Creed and scripture related to the Revelation of God and the
life of Jesus. Prayer and church history are an integral part of the year’s
study. The goal of the class is to strengthen the student’s bond with God
in preparation for the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation in eighth
grade.
The Catholic Vision
of Love, Level 7, is included to instill moral values. |

MATHEMATICS |
Heath Pre-Algebra.
D.C. Heath and Company.
The course concentrates on the basic functions of math as
they relate to Algebra. Integers, rational numbers, ratio, proportion,
percent, probability, and statistics are among the topics explored.
Equations in a single variable are solved and inequalities are graphed.
Problem solving in real life situations is stressed. |

SCIENCE |
Life Science,
Holt Rinehart Winston.
Simple living things, animals, plants, the functions of the
human body, and the environment in which they all live are the major topics
of life science. Experiments, hands-on activities, and discussions enhance
the learning experience. Model building, use of microscopes, and use of
interactive internet sites helps students uncover the secrets of the DNA
molecule and cell parts, and cell processes such as mitosis. |

LANGUAGE
ARTS

Literature, Bronze Level
Harcourt Brace Jovanovich
Students read and respond to age appropriate selections from
different forms of literature. Examples are: Short Story, Drama,
Nonfiction, Poetry, Myths, Folk Tales, and the Novel. Communication through
writing and speaking are emphasized. Students refine their writing skills
due to the course focus on narrative, descriptive, expository, and
persuasive writing. Students are required to make judgments, analyze,
evaluate, and draw conclusions after reading to increase their understanding
of the selections.

Course focus is on the basics of grammar and incorporating
them into the writing experience.
Vocabulary Workshop, Level
B. Sadlier-Oxford
Strengthening of students’ vocabulary skills is accomplished
through their practicing, defining, spelling, and using the 300 words
presented in the fifteen units of the Vocabulary Workshop, Level B.

Peterson Directed Handwriting Middle School Level.
Handwriting skills of spacing, neatness, slant and rhythmic
letter formation and connections are practiced to improve the overall
appearance of student cursive writing. |

HISTORY
SOCIAL STUDIES |
American History,
Globe Fearon.
Seventh grade social studies include a review of geography,
especially of the United States. Students will study government systems,
map reading, timelines (coordinating the U.S. with world events), and
socio-economic history through the Civil War. Primary sources are used in
the text as research into the lives of early Americans. Students will
discuss current events on a regular basis, with emphasis on print journalism
and internet sources. |
