RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS

First Reconciliation On Tuesday, April 15th at 6:30 p.m. our second graders will making their First Reconciliation. Please keep them in your prayers as they continue to prepare to meet Jesus in the Eucharist at their First Communion on Sunday, April 27th .

First Communion Retreat Next Sunday, April 20th all second graders and their parents will be participating in the First Communion Retreat and rehearsal. It will be conducted here at the church from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

CCD ENDS NEXT WEEK Next week will be our last week of CCD for this year. Our children have completed their first year using the Faith First text series from RCL Benzinger. (Learn more about the series at www.faithfirst.com.) Our use of this program is intended to improve catechesis throughout every child's CCD and Catholic School experience. Next year we look to build upon the foundation that the children have received so far. Please keep our children and catechetical staff in your prayers as we enjoy a few months of time off and get ready for a fresh start in the fall.

SAINT IRENAEUS PARISH FESTIVAL NEWS!!!

Are you ready to think about some summertime fun? Please come and share your ideas at the first Festival Meeting on Thursday April 24th at 7:30 p.m. in the PLEC meeting room. Refreshments will be provided. This year's Festival dates are August 7th, 8th and 9th. Cathy Hammel and myself are co-chairs for the Festival this year. St. Irenaeus Youth will meet this weekend, on Sunday, April 13th, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the youth center. All teens in grades 9 through 12 are welcome.

May Novena Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Our parish will hold a special nine day Novena beginning on May 9th and concluding on May 17th. Novenas are short prayers that are said for nine consecutive days. This is a wonderful opportunity for prayer. Please look for more information in future bulletins.

The annulment process, or Declaration of Marriage Nullity, as it is properly called, is often misunderstood. Anyone interested in learning about this process is invited to attend a special program at St. Paul Seminary this Wednesday, April 16th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The presenter will be Fr. Brian Welding, Tribunal Judicial Vicar for the Diocese of Pittsburgh. This program is free and open to the public. A free will offering will be accepted. NTX ROBOTICS FIRST PLACE WINNER Congratulations to Ariana Costanzo, Grade 8, who came in First Place at St. Irenaeus� first NTX Robotics Competition held on Tuesday, April 1st in Blough Eleven Students competed after months of preparation. Making it to the final round were Ariana Costanzo Julia Krysicki. After the tie breaker, Ariana was declared the First Place winner! She was awarded a Certificate and a $200 U.S. Savings Bond. WELL DONE!

SCHOOL EXTREME MAKEOVER Everyone is familiar with the weekly show Extreme Makeover which airs on Sunday evening ... well, they are going to do a School Makeover! ZANER-BLOSER HANDWRITING CONTEST Four students from St. Irenaeus received word from the Zaner-Bloser Company that their entries won for their grade levels in the Handwriting Contest. Awarded certificates for excellent handwriting were: Gr. 8- Kaitlyn Costanzo, Gr. 6-Lyndis Kenny Howell, Gr. 5-Bethany Giancola, and Gr. 4-Martha Stock. Congratulations!

St. Irenaeus Ladies of Charity had three new members invested at the 49th Annual Investiture Mass held on March 29th at St. Paul�s Cathedral. Bishop David A. Zubik was Principle Celebrant and Homilist for the ceremony. We congratulate and welcome our three new members: Audrey Aleprete, Grace Smith and Anna Mae Tominac

Christian Mothers Meeting Christian Mothers will have a meeting on April 21st at 6:00 p.m. in Blough Hall. Guest speaker, Karen Movale, will present the program "What did Jesus Eat?" She will discuss the Mediterranean diet at the time of Christ and prepare samples to eat (not a dinner.) All are welcome. At the meeting a collection will be taken for the "No Bake Sale." If members are unable to attend the meeting, please send donations for the No Bake Sale to treasurer, Peg Rossi.

On Sunday, May 11th, St. Irenaeus Respect Life Group will, once again, have its Mother's Day Flower Sale.
