RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS

For the Ride Home In this Gospel, John tells the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. The story is significant because it is likely that his action was his last miracle before Jesus began the journey toward his own death. Jesus was called to Bethany to save his friend, but instead waited several days to return. This action confused Lazarus' sisters, Mary and Martha, because they knew that Jesus could have healed their brother. Jesus used the incident to strengthen the faith of Mary, Martha, and all who believed. He made sure that Lazarus was raised from death so that the people could witness God's glory.

The healing power of Jesus brings new life to all of us. Are there some things in our lives that cause us to die to others? Perhaps we are impatient, ungrateful, critical, or quick to anger. Maybe we're proud, boastful, or envious. Jesus promises us new life if we trust in him and allow our actions to follow his ways.

If there are members of your extended family who have died, share with one another what this passage might mean for them. What hope does the reading give us for ourselves and for our loved ones? How does new life that we can see this spring help us know what Jesus promised?

LENTEN SPEAKER DESCRIBES DRAMATIC TRANSFORMATION - Lenten guest speaker, Joan Ulicny, will speak on Gods Love through Suffering this weekend, on Sunday, March 9th at 7:00 p.m. in church. Joan will share her spiritual journey of reconciliation with the God she says she had long ignored prior to a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler in 1986 that left her legally blind, brain-damaged and a stroke victim.

In 1988, Ms. Ulicny went to Medjugorje in search of healing for her sight. She returned physically unchanged, but a spiritual transformation slowly began. She says the Blessed Mother inspired her to write her published story, A Greater Vision, and gave Joan the courage to write about her own abortion experience and to share with others the healing she found in reconciling with God.

All are welcome.

CENTENNIAL THANK YOU The final event to commemorate the Centennial Year of St. Irenaeus Church was held last weekend on March 1st and 2nd.

A special Thank You goes out to the Centennial Steering Committee, the Pastoral Council, the School and CCD programs and to all those who served in any way to make the past Centennial year so memorable. Your time and effort was greatly appreciated.

Thank you to families who completed the survey for the Catholic Cemeteries Association of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Our parish received a small contribution for your efforts.

This weekend, on Sunday, March 9th, St. Irenaeus Youth will meet at 6:45 p.m. in church to hear Lenten Guest Speaker, Joan Ulicnys talk. They will then meet in the youth center afterwards.
